I’m wondering whether or not the version of my disk (10.5.1) may have something to do with it: the Boot Camp Installer is different as its an earlier version. That doesn’t seem to be happening with other folks, however.
All the instructions I’ve seen ( here and here) seem to suggest the Boot Camp installer on the Leopard disk works fine. The install went without a hitch, but I ran into serious problems in getting any drivers installed. Just make sure you select the partition labeled BOOTCAMP! Any other one could wipe your Mac OS clean. Even though it asks for a XP or Vista disk, the Windows 7 disc will work. Open up Boot Camp Assistant and Follow the instructions. What you want to do is open up your Applications, then select Utilities. Yes, it may be blasphemy, but even us Macheads are a little curious sometimes, right?Īnyway (to me) the install was quite painless. These can increase the performance of your graphics card even further, but beware-they may break functionality like the ability to change the brightness of your display.I am writing this for those of you who may be daring enough to attempt an install of Windows 7 on your Macs. If you want to play games, you'll probably want to go and find the latest drivers for the particular graphics card in your Mac from either AMD or NVIDIA. While you can set up tap-to-click and two-finger right-clicking, it just doesn't feel as nice as in macOS. Unfortunately, the trackpad doesn't behave so well on Windows, either. Your mileage may vary, but it definitely doesn't stand up to macOS. You'll most likely lose a few hours of battery life running Windows-with some reports of a 50% reduction in battery life. Windows, designed to run on lots of different hardware, is nowhere near as optimized, and it shows. However, on the downside, if you use a MacBook, you may see some reductions in battery life and loss of functionality with your trackpad, as Apple designed it to work with macOS. That's because, generally speaking, a lot of games are written for Windows first and will often use DirectX (a Microsoft technology) the same games on macOS will have to make do with different technology, OpenGL, which is cross-platform and well-supported but generally less efficient resulting in lower performance.
